Lead Organizer

 

The Office of Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez is seeking a thoughtful, hard-working, and compassionate team member to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment as a Lead Organizer. The ideal candidate should be fully committed to the project of building power for working families in Council District 13 (CD13) and across the City and should demonstrate a commitment to racial and economic justice and have some experience with public policy.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Creating and executing an organizing program from the ground-up for the Council Office that engages CD13 neighborhood leaders, activists and volunteers.
  • Building the Council Office’s organizing and community engagement capacity. This includes developing and carrying out training for staff.
  • Developing and leading organizing efforts in support of the Office’s policy priorities and of key issues identified by constituents.
  • Developing and leading volunteer mobilizations, including canvassing teams that conduct outreach to CD13 residents.
  • Proactively engaging with constituents, community groups, and other stakeholders, to identify key concerns and connect them with services available to address those concerns.
  • Facilitating community events, and representing the office at such events.
  • Recruiting volunteers through direct outreach in the field and through outreach to the volunteer database.
  • Establishing and convening regular meetings of representative committees of CD13 constituents, volunteers and leaders who can work together to advance key projects in the district.
  • Working collaboratively with other Council Office teams.

The ideal candidate:

  • Must be self motivated and able to work independently to create and execute an organizing program
  • Has 2+ years of experience leading organizing campaigns and applying and training others on all facets of organizing
  • Has 1-2 years of direct supervision experience.
  • Has an understanding of Los Angeles, Council District 13, and the long-standing challenges and needs facing working families and underserved communities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with community stakeholders from all backgrounds and neighborhoods in the district.
  • Is fluent in reading and writing in Spanish.

 

The position is full-time and exempt from Civil Service. Salary range is $71,000 - $85,000 based on experience, and includes excellent benefits. To apply, upload your resume and brief cover letter to bit.ly/joincd13.
