Legislative Deputy
Sophie Freeman

Sophie serves as the Legislative Deputy to Los Angeles City Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell. She assists the Councilmember on the council floor, as well as on committee assignments.

Before joining Team Mitch, Sophie was a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs, which gave her the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in different sectors across Los Angeles, from helping to develop electric scooter policy at LA Metro, to coordinating volunteers on a successful congressional campaign, to facilitating community engagement events for the first-ever Los Angeles County Sustainability Plan.

Sophie graduated cum laude from Yale University with distinction in Environmental Studies and Ethnicity, Race & Migration. She wrote a thesis on environmental conflict resolution, examining the process of mediating across diverse stakeholder groups to find creative solutions to natural resource disputes, and another on building a nonpartisan climate movement. She was president of the Yale Student Environmental Coalition, a First-year Outdoor Orientation Trip Leader, a board member of the LGBTQ Co-op, and worked at the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication.

In her spare time, Sophie enjoys exploring the Los Angeles food and music scenes, going on hikes, and dog-watching in her neighborhood of Echo Park.
