Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Los Angeles in March 2020, Councilmember O’Farrell and his team have worked tirelessly to keep Angelenos housed, fed, safe, and secure. These efforts include:
A robust, Citywide eviction moratorium - the strongest in the nation - to protect struggling tenants against evictions related to COVID-19
The largest municipal rental assistance program in the country, including an additional $1 million specifically for renters in the 13th District, one of only two Councilmembers to establish such a program. These programs have assisted renters and landlords who have been affected by COVID-19.
A $1 million emergency grant program for small businesses in the 13th District, the only Councilmember to do so. To date, 179 small businesses have received this grant, 46% of which self-identify as women-owned, and 40% of which self-identify as minority-owned.
A monthly food distribution program that has helped hundreds of 13th District families who are struggling with food insecurity
A local vaccination program that provided FREE COVID-19 vaccines to thousands of residents and workers in the 13th District, with a focus on historically under-served communities
A motion, co-introduced with Council President Nury Martinez, requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination for certain indoor public spaces in the City of Los Angeles
“Hero” pay for grocery workers, who have served on the frontlines since the beginning of the pandemic, and are among the hardest-hit by COVID-19
