COVID-19 Update: Review the Mayor's Proposed Budget FY '20-'21

City Hall
Friends,

As we heard the Mayor state in his annual State of the City address Sunday evening, the COVID-19 pandemic has created a grim outlook when it comes to the City’s Budget. There are significant cuts being made to several city programs, however we are preserving core city services including public safety.

Relating to how the city is addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m pleased to have the Mayor’s support for my resolution calling on our state and federal lawmakers to suspend rent and mortgage. He is also calling for the expansion of Section 8 Housing; the ability for all to pursue and further their education; and the passage of a national infrastructure bill to create jobs. We need federal support to keep America and our city moving amidst the public health crisis we are enduring.

As we emerge from the coronavirus pandemic, we must be laser focused on keeping people housed, preventing properties from going into foreclosure, and re-building our small business community. We will find our footing, and Los Angeles will be a better city.

My staff and I are currently reviewing Mayor Garcetti’s Proposed Budget for Fiscal Year 2020-21. As always, I understand my role as a steward of taxpayer money and commit to be fiscally prudent. I would also like to hear your priorities when it comes to city services in your neighborhood. Please feel free to contact me at councilmember.ofarrell@lacity.org with your ideas.

Please stay safe,

MITCH O’FARRELL

TAKE PART IN THE 2020 CENSUS

LOS ANGELES - Participating in the 2020 Census is critically important. This population count, conducted once every 10 years, helps generate federal funding for programs like Medi-Cal, Title 1 funding, SNAP (food stamps), and the repair and construction of highways, bridges, roads, and more.
