COVID-19 Update: Providing Relief to Renters

City Hall
Friends,

At today’s City Council meeting I introduced a motion to reallocate $1 million from a fund typically reserved for public improvement projects to kickstart a grant program to help our small businesses in the 13th District. These funds will initiate the “Emergency Small Business Grant Program” for businesses with 26 or fewer employees, and will assist those struggling to make ends meet during the COVID-19 emergency orders. The program will be administered and developed in partnership with the City’s Economic and Workforce Development Department (EWDD). In the coming weeks I’ll have more details for this Council District 13 specific program, including the application period.

We also unanimously approved a report from the Mayor and the Housing + Community Investment Department (HCIDLA) regarding site recommendations for eight proposed supportive housing projects for people experiencing homelessness. These projects will utilize $120M in funds set aside from Measure HHH to help finance housing projects through alternative means as a way to expedite costs and timelines. One of the proposed projects is located in the 13th District at 405 N Westlake Ave, consisting of 19 homes for people currently without one.

These action items will bring some much needed relief to many Angelenos. The City Council will return to session on Wednesday, May 13.

Stay safe,

MITCH O’FARRELL
