COVID-19 Update: Emergency Small Business Grant Program

City Hall
Friends,

In today’s Council meeting, my initiative to provide $1million in grants to struggling small businesses located in the 13th District due to the COVID-19 pandemic was unanimously adopted.

The $1 million of funding would normally be allocated for public improvement projects in the 13th District but I have redirected it to where it is needed most. The funds will be utilized for 13th District businesses with 26 or fewer employees. The City's Economic and Workforce Development Department (EWDD) will develop the guidelines and application process for this new “Emergency Small Business Grant program.” I’ll have more details on the application process in the coming days.

Another one of my small business initiatives will be voted on tomorrow: Capping the fees delivery app companies charge restaurants.

Our favorite local restaurants are struggling to survive. The bulk of their sales are now dependent on delivery services. Outrageously, some of these delivery apps are charging restaurants 30% or more of the price of your order. There’s a term for that: PRICE GOUGING.

Please voice your support on my initiative to cap the delivery app fees at 15% during tomorrow’s City Council meeting, May 20, at 10am on Channel 35 or here
