City Hall
Friends:

Council President Nury Martinez has scheduled an emergency City Council meeting for Friday, March 27, at 11 a.m.  During this meeting, Council will act on numerous ordinances that are based on the motions approved last week, all of them dealing with assisting Angelenos in the wake of COVID-19.

The public is invited to watch the meeting on LA City View Channel 35 on Spectrum Cable, or online here

Members of the public wishing to provide testimony on the items should call (669) 900-6833 and use Meeting ID No. 459 499 150 then press #. Press # again when prompted for participant ID.

Here are just some of the items we will be voting on:
  • Adopt an ordinance affording tenant protections during the Coronavirus COVID-19 Emergency Declaration.
  • Adopt an ordinance requiring certain businesses in Los Angeles to comply with citywide worker retention provisions.
  • Adopt an ordinance to provide workers of grocery, drug retail, and food delivery platforms with added protections during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
  • Adopt an ordinance requiring retail food stores to dedicate one hour of customer business exclusively to the elderly and the disabled.

A full agenda can be found here.

I will also introduce a motion requesting the Department of City Planning to waive public hearings for establishments that have sunset clauses in their conditional use permits, and are seeking renewal of those permits. This action will assist businesses already overwhelmed with uncertainty created by the COVID-19 shut down, as well as the uncertainty of not having regularly scheduled hearings.

And for the Hollywood Walk of Fame, I am introducing a motion that will create the Jobs and Economic Development Incentive (JEDI) Zone program for part of the historic landmark to provide economic development incentives, and continue our push to ensure the historic monument is a world-class destination!

I will have more updates for you in my next newsletter.

Please stay safe!

RESURFACING IN EAST HOLLYWOOD

EAST HOLLYWOOD - Crews were out in East Hollywood working on a slurry project in the "T" alley between Sunset Blvd and Fountain Ave, and Kenmore Ave and Edgemont Ave. This work helped to ensure the alley way is kept clean and smooth for local residents and businesses. Thank you to the Bureau of Street Services for working with my office to conduct this much-needed improvement.
